Blowouts

The April 2010 Macondo / Deepwater Horizon (Deepwater Semi-Submersible rig) blowout in the Gulf of Mexico, U.S.A. followed only a few months after the relatively shallow water (Jack-Up rig) in the Timor Sea offshore to NW Australia (Montara) in late 2009. Thus, no matter the rig / water depth, it seems as though the Industry struggles with safety - per the evidence - and that it has learned little with regard to attitude toward risk and ensuing consequence. Indeed, type in "blowout" on any search engine and you will see a catalogue of similar disasters - all the way back to the "Spindletop" era over 100 years ago. The excuses Operators and Contractors give are all similar - and sadly we never seem to learn.

In conjunction with its Well Examination & Well Integrity Services, Risk Management Systems and Risk Impact Software, IDEAS is able to prevent potential disasters from becoming actual disasters.
