KOLSKAYA JACK-UP RIG - EASTERN RUSSIA

IDEAS Ltd
would like to pass commiserations to all family members and friends of the "Kolskaya" Jack Up Rig who died whilst the rig was under tow in bad weather in the Sea of Okhotsk in Eastern Russia en-route to Kholmsk, Sakhalin Islan, Eastern Russia, recently. Many bodies have yet to be recovered.

IDEAS Ltd has spent quite a large amount of time both in Russia and advising Russian companies and personnel of late and this tragedy, so close to the Festive Christmas Season, is greatly mourned.

Unless we as an Industry carry-out detailed Risk Analysis work on every situation / operation likely to go wrong, then, sadly, these events will continue to happen - despite the "post Macondo" and "post Montara" climate of "awareness". These events are avoidable - but we must do the risk analysis work beforehand. For only then can we eliminate / reduce / mitigate the risks likely to befall us.
